Front-of-House Job Descriptions for Friends of the Barn
Car
Park Attendant: This role carries the responsibility for offering help to
patrons so that they park safely, swiftly and conveniently, whilst allowing the
Theatre to comply with the necessary safety requirements.
You would need
to be at the theatre one hour before curtain up until 15 minutes after the show
starts.
Bar
Steward: This role involves serving patrons with drinks (beer, wine, soft
drinks); taking and later preparing interval drinks orders.
You would need
to be at the theatre one hour before curtain up. The bar sometimes reopens after
some shows.
Bar
Support: This role involves opening wine; replenishing stock in the chillers;
collecting and washing dirty glasses in the dish washer.
You would need
to be at the theatre from 50 minutes before curtain up until the bar closes and
the clearing up and restocking is done. Sometimes the bar opens after the show.
Coffee
Seller: This role involves selling coffee from a designated place at the end
of the bar.
You would need to be at the theatre from 50 minutes before curtain
up until the coffee service area has been cleaned up after the last interval.
Ice
Cream Seller: This role involves selling ice creams from the front foyer during
the intervals.
You
would need to be at the theatre from 15 minutes before the first interval until
about 5 minutes after the last interval.
Sweet
Shop Assistant: This role involves serving patrons before the performances
and during the intervals.
You would need to be at the theatre from 50 minutes
before curtain up until after the last interval.
Programme
Seller: This role involves answering queries about the location of their seats
etc. and, of course, selling programmes.
You would need to be at the theatre
from 50 minutes before curtain up until 5 minutes after curtain up.
Raffle
Ticket Seller: This role involves you in an early greeting of patrons, perhaps
answering queries about the location of their seats and, of course, selling and
folding raffle tickets ready for the draw.
You would need to be at the theatre
from 50 minutes before curtain up until the end of sales and the handover of the
takings and unsold tickets to the Front of House Manager.
Dress
Code: The dress code is usually black and white for the ladies and D.J.s for
the gentlemen. Of course, the car park attendants will dress appropriately for
the weather with a safety vest (supplied by the theatre) and the person in bar
support will need to be comfortable - it can get quite warm in the bar stock room!
