Many moons ago in a far off place lived a handsome prince with a gloomy face... You might think that you know the story of The Princess and the Pea, but you probably don't know the REAL story which is the subject of this highly entertaining musical comedy.

With music written by Mary Rodgers, the daughter of the great Richard Rodgers, the score brims with memorable tunes and the stage teems with eccentric characters - a talkative queen, a cursed king, a whole bunch of frustrated knights and ladies, minstrels, jesters, wizards, a lonely prince and, of course the fair princess.

Once Upon a Mattress is the latest offering from the Phoenix Theatre Company, who delighted audiences a year ago with the Cole Porter musical Red Hot and Cole. This time, the setting has been skilfully altered from a sophisticated cocktail party to the towers and moats of a fairytale castle.
