The Southern
Counties Drama Festival - 2013 Adjudicator - Helen E Sharman G.o.D.A
The adjudicator
for the 2013 festival will be Helen E Sharman G.o.D.A. Helen has been
involved with amateur theatre for as long as she can remember. Her parents,
her husband, both her children, and one of her dogs, have all taken
part in local productions and her late father was also a member of G.o.D.A.
She has worked extensively with youth theatre and has a particular interest
in encouraging the next generation of actors and technicians.
She is an active
member of Beaconsfield Theatre Group and a past Chairman. As a director,
she particularly enjoyed working on Alfie and Les Liaisons Dangereuses
with BTG. As an actress, her roles include Truvy in Steel Magnolias,
complete with fat suit and wig, Doris in Same Time Next Year and she
has also appeared as Granny Weatherwax in Carpe Jugulum at ten days
notice!
Helen has adjudicated
at festivals including Wallingford, Leatherhead, Abingdon and Kenton,
officiated at the Eastern Area Semi-final of the AETF and has completed
three 'tours of duty' with the Brent and Barnet festival of full length
plays. Last year, she was invited to the Shetland County Drama Festival
and learned a smattering of the dialect along the way! She has been
a competitor herself, both on stage and behind the scenes and well understands
the stresses, strains and joys of the festival experience.
Helen has written
two books for A & C Black, including - Directing for Amateur Theatre.
When not immersed in theatre, she attempts to grow bonsai trees and
is often to be found in the local woods with her dog.
The addition of
a middle initial has proved essential to avoid the on-going confusion
with the astronaut of the same name!
